    KTA Website

Well we are almost there, just over a week to go and we will be kicking off the final round of the first every Asian Kiteboard Tour. Seems crazy and brilliant to be at this point when this time last year the KTA or even the idea of the KTA did not exist. So its really a very massive thank you to everyone who has helped, supported, pushed and worked to make things possible for this to happen from China to Thailand. It’s been fantastic so far so lets make sure we finish on a high!

Throughout the KTA tour we have had great support from our headline tour sponsor the Evason Six Senses Spa, so it is fitting that the finals should be taking place with them at their beautiful resort right there on the beach front at Paknampran in Pranburi. Certainly if the build up is anything to go by the Evason is determined to ensure that the KTA finals will be something to remember, from the facilities for the riders, the accommodation, to the event location and the parties its looking pretty amazing.

Media interest is also at a premium for the KTA finals with the Evason reporting ten companies already booked in there to cover the event. Plus of course there will be our very own KTA cameraman Frenchie on hand to catch those er ‘interesting moments’ as well as all the water action. In addition to Frenchie’snormal video output for the KTA, he will be being added footage to a daily output to the Sky Sports TV channels for Europe and Untamed TV over in the USA. So certainly one aim of the KTA to show kiteboarding in Asia to the wider world seems to have been achieved.

So the competition runs the 25 – 28 March. If you have not pre-registered then the last onsite registration morning will be the 25th March from 9am until 12noon. The winds in Pranburi at this time of year will be at the best in the early afternoons onwards as the thermals start to kick in, so expect the first competition start for either freestyle or course race on that first afternoon.

If time and conditions allow we also hope to add an extra ‘Old School’ event to the proceedings, which will make for a great extra show for the spectators and good fun to ride in. All will be explained at the time so nothing to practice in advance, plus of course if you need to know anything about this type of competition then just track down our media partners Kiteforum at the event as this is one of their champion causes and was their request for the KTA finals.

Also joining us at the finals will be all our other key tour sponsors, Cabrinha, Action Asia, Maelstorm and of course Kite Zone, with Pranburi being their home turf also. Only SueMe will be missing in person, as these boys are deep in the snow halfway up a mountain somewhere in Europe right now. We will also be pleased to be welcoming Markus Schwendertner from the IKA, who will be flying in from Europe to join us also for the finals. The IKA is the kiteboard class world governing body, which under ISAF have sanctioned the KTA tour in Asia.

Don’t forget also that this being the tour finals we will not only be seeing who will win the fifth round of the tour, but also which riders will be crowned as our first ever KTA Tour Champions and also Asia’s first overall Asian Champions. Right now it’s all still very much to play for a number of riders, so let the games commence.

    See you in Thailand !!
